Origin and history

The Malopolski is a Polish breed developed in the Małopolska region, in southeastern Poland. It originated from crosses between local Konik-type mares and Oriental (Arabian, Shagya, Gidran) and Anglo-Arabian stallions. The objective was to create a versatile, robust, and elegant riding horse. The breed was officially recognized in Poland in the mid-20th century and is now one of the country's most important riding horse breeds.

Conformation and physique

The Malopolski is a medium-sized horse, elegant and harmonious, with a solid but not heavy bone structure. It presents an athletic silhouette, typical of a light to medium riding horse, with balanced proportions.

The head is medium-sized, well-proportioned, with a straight or slightly concave profile (Arabian tendency). The eyes are large and expressive, the ears well-set and mobile. The muzzle is broad and the nostrils well-opened.

The neck is long, well-muscled and well-set, blending harmoniously into a well-defined and extended wither. It is carried elegantly.

The back is straight and strong, the topline is harmonious. The chest is deep and broad, ensuring good respiratory capacity. The croup is long, muscular and slightly sloped, with a well-set tail.

The limbs are clean, strong and well-muscled, with well-defined joints and clearly delineated tendons. The cannons are of medium length. The hooves are hard and well-formed. Feathering is generally sparse.
