The Novoolexandrian Draft is a Ukrainian breed developed at the Novoolexandrovsk stud farm in the Luhansk region. Its development began in the 1920s with crosses between local mares and stallions of European draft breeds, notably the Brabant, Ardennes, and Soviet Heavy Draft. The objective was to create a powerful and resilient draft horse, adapted to local agricultural conditions. The breed was officially recognized in 1959.

Conformation and physique

It is a medium to large-sized draft horse, with a massive and muscular build. It has strong bone structure and a compact conformation, typical of draft breeds intended for heavy agricultural work.

The head is medium-sized, with a straight or slightly convex profile. The forehead is broad, the eyes expressive, and the ears medium-sized.

The neck is short, thick, and very muscular, well-set into the body. The withers are broad and not very prominent, blending smoothly into the back.

The limbs are short, strong, and muscular, with large, solid joints. The cannons are short, and the feet are large and well-formed. Moderate feathering is generally present.
